WATER & SEWER

Water Services

The Southwest Regional Water Co-op Public Water System (PWS) provides safe potable drinking water to the residents of Melita, Two Borders, and Brenda-Waskada through the distribution systems and to other rural residents by means of the Truck Fill System at the Water Treatment Plant (WTP). Treated water produced from the TWP meets or exceeds all health and aesthetic objectives as stated in the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality.

Water tests are taken daily on a routine basis to ensure that the water is safe and to monitor how well the treatment process is performing.  Water is tested at the WTP and in the distribution systems.  Daily tests are performed at the WTP on six (6) different aspects of the treatment process.

Water capacity is averaged at 108,929 gallons per day.  Water service is capable of expansion.  For more information regarding testing, capacity and records, please review the Public Water System Annual Report.

Sewage Services

Each town/village throughout the region is serviced by a lagoon septic system for the treatment and storage of wastewater.  A sewage lagoon is a large pond-like basin that will often treat wastewater naturally utilizing bacterial growth, and is controlled by the Province of Manitoba for designated times and conditions before release can occur.

The Town of Melita has recently upgraded it's sewage lagoon into a Wastewater Treatment Facility.  This system utilizes a SAGR system and is constantly monitored for treatment and flow volumes.  Water tests are taken daily on a routine basis to ensure that the water is safe and to monitor how well the treatment process is performing.
